Mozilla Firefox 18 Released with IonMonkey JavaScript Compiler! Install it in Ubuntu/Linux Mint

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser developed for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux coordinated by Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation. On Jan 7, 2013 Mozilla has announced the release of Firefox 18 for all platforms. Firefox 18 comes with many improvement over its predecessor like IonMonkey JavaScript Compiler for faster performance, Better HTML scaling Algorithm for Better image etc.

New in Firefox 18

  • Faster JavaScript Compiler(IonMonkey)
  • New HTML scaling algorithm for better image quality.
  • Improved tab Switching performance
  • Improved Startup time

To install Mozilla Firefox 18 in Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 and Linux Mint 13/14, run the following commands in terminal (Alt + Ctrl + t)

Step 1: Add Firefox repository

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

Step 2: Update sources.list

$ sudo apt-get update

Step 3: Install Firefox 18

$ sudo apt-get install firefox

That's it , you have successfully installed Firefox 18. To check Firefox version, type following command in terminal

$ firefox -v
Mozilla Firefox 18.0
