Thunderbird 17.0.2 Released! Install it in Ubuntu/Linux Mint

Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, open source, cross-platform email and news client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. Mozilla has announced the release of Thunderbird 17.0.2 with some improvements.

New in Thunderbird 17.0.2

  • Pressing the 'x' button on Windows now closes only one window rather than the whole application
  • An issue that caused occasional corruption in local folders after filtering is now fixed
  • An issue that caused deletion of drafts saved in IMAP folders whilst in offline mode is now fixed

To install Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.2 in Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 and Linux Mint 13/14, open terminal (Alt + Ctrl + t) and type following commands

Step 1: Add Thunderbird Repository

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-stable

Step 2: Update sources.list

$ sudo apt-get update

Step 3: Install Thunderbird 17.0.2

$ sudo apt-get install thunderbird

That's it , you have successfully installed Thunderbird 17.0.2. To check Thunderbird version, type following command in terminal

$ thunderbird -v
Thunderbird 17.0.2
