How to install Firefox 16.0.2 from Terminal in Ubuntu 12.10/12.04/11.10

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser developed for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux coordinated by Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation. Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine to render web pages, which implements current and anticipated web standards. As of July 2012, Firefox has approximately 24% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, making it the third most widely used web browser.

  • Firefox on Mac OS X now has preliminary VoiceOver support turned on by default
  • Initial web app support (Windows/Mac/Linux)
  • Acholi and Kazakh localizations added

To install Mozilla Firefox 16.0.2 in Ubuntu open terminal (Alt + Ctrl + t) and type the following commands

Step 1: Add Firefox repository

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

Step 2: Update sources.list

$ sudo apt-get update

Step 3: Install Firefox 16.0.2

$ sudo apt-get install firefox

That's it , you have successfully installed Firefox 16.0.2. To check Firefox version type following command on terminal

$ firefox -v
Mozilla Firefox 16.0.2
