How to Install Adobe Reader in Ubuntu/Linux Mint

There are many PDF Reader available for Ubuntu but Adobe reader is the most used PDF reader among computer Users.Adobe Reader is a powerful software provided by Adobe that enables you to view and print PDF documents fast and easy, no matter the content, be it photos, videos, emails, drawings or any kind of multimedia file. This tutorial will help you to install Adober reader on your Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Install using Command Line

1. To install adobe reader in Ubuntu/Linux Mint, open terminal (Alt + Ctrl + t) and run the following command
$ sudo apt-get install acroread
[sudo] password for rajkumar: 
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libbabl-0.0-0 libgegl-0.0-0 libx264-116 ssh-krb5 libcmis-0.2-0 libmatroska4
  acroread-common
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following extra packages will be installed:
  acroread-bin acroread-common
Suggested packages:
  libldap2 libgnome-speech7
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  acroread-bin
The following packages will be upgraded:
  acroread acroread-common
2 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 545 not upgraded.
Need to get 60.1 MB of archives.
After this operation, 45.1 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?y

Installing Manually

Step 1. Download Adobe Reader from official Adobe website.

Install Adobe Reader from .bin file

a. Make it Executable
$ sudo chmod +x AdbeRdr9.4.7-1_i486linux_enu.bin

b. Install Adobe Reader
$ sudo ./AdbeRdr9.4.7-1_i486linux_enu.bin

Install Adobe Reader from .deb file

To install Adobe Reader from .deb file, open terminal and run the following command
$ sudo dpkg -i AdbeRdr9.4.7-1_i486linux_enu.deb

Install Adobe Reader from Tarball file

a. Extract Adobe Reader Using tar command
$ sudo tar -xjf AdbeRdr9.1.1-1_i486linux_enu.tar.bz2

b. Launch the Installation Script
$ sudo ./AdobeReader/INSTALL

That's it.
