How to Covert .deb Package to .rpm Package or .rpm Package to .deb Package using alien command


                                  Steps to convert .deb package to .rpm package


1. Install alien command in your system (Ubuntu or mint).

$ sudo apt-get install alien


           or

$ sudo aptitude install alien


On Redhat and Fedora use

$ yum install alien


2. Download .rpm package which you want to convert into .deb package . Lets say your .rpm package name is myrpmpackage, then enter the following command

$ sudo alien myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.rpm
myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.deb generated

          or


$ sudo alien -d myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.rpm
myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.deb generated




3. Install it

$ sudo dpkg -i myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.deb


* You can combine step 2 and 3 by writing 
$ sudo alien -i myrpmpackage-1.10-2.i386.rpm


above command convert .rpm into .deb package and install it.


From .deb package to .rpm package


$  sudo alien -r  mydebpackage-1.10-2.i386.deb
mydebpackage-1.10-2.i386.rpm generated

For installation of package on Redhat and Fedora use

$  rpm -i mydebpackage-1.10-2.i386.rpm
